Salary - £47,700 - £71,800 Contract type - Permanent About the role As a UX Researcher within the Innovation & Change Function at Waitrose Retail you’ll be key to the success of both our customer facing and Partner shop floor experiences. Working within a lean but collaborative multidisciplinary team of Product Designers, Product Managers, Developers and Innovation leads. Our Retail Support Teams are the dynamic force steering a thriving and innovative retail ecosystem for Waitrose and Partners and your role will shape continuous improvement and support a test & learn approach to shape, optimise, and revolutionise the future of retail. You will be the voice of research within Innovation & Change joining at the start of an exciting journey to develop the Retail Experience Design team. As a co-owner within the Partnership a core part of your role will be advocating for digital products that enable partners in store to deliver first class service to food lovers across the UK. Balancing Partner needs with the needs of our customers you will co-develop ways to assist our customers shopping in our stores be that a top up or small basket mission all the way to the large weekly shop. Key responsibilities Working closely with the Product Design Manager to craft project strategies through a broad range of research methods including the undertaking of discovery activities, interviews and surveys all the way through to prototype testing and live field studies Working with Partners across the entire retail landscape, being in stores regularly to observe and understand how our business and functions operate Be able to understand our customers & partners and the problems they face, to support our team with developing innovative opportunities that create change across thousands of touchpoints a day in our stores Collaborating with stakeholders, designers and managers in the team to ensure that research is conducted at all stages of the design thinking process What will you be doing? Carrying out research across a range of research platforms and identify the right methodologies, tools and techniques to use at the right time for each outcome Gathering, understanding and interpreting attitudes and behaviours of both Partners & Customers in order to inform design, decision-making and product/service development Working on a wide ranging scope of work from digital on screen interactions through to physical hardware testing both remotely and in our store estate with customers & partners Responsible for assisting early strategy on upcoming or unknown challenges and working with senior leaders to develop longer term strategies to enhance innovation Regularly presenting findings back to stakeholders and teams through different storytelling methods that showcases effective written and verbal communication and varies the output of research findings for the audience Handling both qual and quant data and working with others to source and analyse data points to support observation lead research Encouraging development and be part of a community of practise within all our brands and share your knowledge and understandings with others to grow research within the entire Partnership Ensuring projects are managed on time, to quality and for the best value Essential skills you’ll need Previous experience working within a user research function Experience delivering on a wide range of research projects and at different life cycles including discovery and generative research projects Knowledge and experience of working with a wide variety of research tools & methodologies such as: User interviews / Diary studies / Jobs to be done / Journey Mapping / Usability testing / Survey creation and analysis / Card Sorting / Competitor analysis / Experience walkthroughs / Lab and instore testing Experience working on different research platforms such as Dscout / usertesting / Lysanna / Survey Monkey Desirable skills Research, Psychology or Design Related Degree Previous experience working with both onscreen interactions and physical environments and hardware Experience managing multiple projects and timeframes, with project management tooling such as Jira & Confluence Experience with collaboration and design software such as Miro & Figma Previous experience working in grocery or retail oriented businesses Benefits of the Partnership and the role 💻 - Hybrid Working 🏖️ - Full time working holiday entitlement 25 days holiday, plus public and bank holidays ⚖ - Excellent work life balance, including focus on well being and flexible working and our market leading equal parenthood leave Policy 🌷- Defined Contribution pension scheme where your contributions will be matched by the Partnership (up to 8% of pay) and, after three years’ service, you’ll receive an additional Partnership contribution of 4% of pay, regardless of whether you pay in or not 🤑 - You’ll get Partnership discount in store and online once you complete your Earning Membership.
