Tesco has begun to review its options for its businesses in Thailand and Malaysia.

The review could see Tesco sell the companies.

In a statement, Tesco said: “The evaluation of strategic options is at an early stage, no decisions concerning the future of Tesco Thailand or Malaysia have been taken, and there can be no assurance that any transaction will be concluded. A further announcement will be made if and when appropriate.”

Tesco currently operates nearly 2,000stores in Thailand as well as 74 shops in Malaysia.  In the year to February, the two businesses posted a profit of £286 million, and combined revenues of £4.9 billion.
