Ocado is set to open its first mini customer fulfilment centre. The retailer has chosen Bristol for the opening.
The new fulfilment centre will be the retailers sixth in the UK, but it will be the first of the smaller format. The size means that it will be able to begin operating much sooner than the larger centres, with a go live date of late 2020 or early 2021.
The mini customer fulfilment centre will have the capacity for over 30,000 orders per week, compared to 85,000 at the larger sites.
Customers in the city and surrounding areas will benefit from a wider range of delivery options, including same day.
Tim Steiner, chief executive of Ocado Group, said: “The Ocado Smart Platform is constantly evolving as we innovate to adapt to changing customer needs. We can now deliver the best customer experience across a whole range of customer missions, through CFCs, mini CFCs, and micro fulfilment centres.”
There will be around 815 jobs created by the opening of the 150,000 square foot warehouse.
