John Lewis saw its total sales decline by 2.5% year-on-year last week as the retailer’s clearance sale came to an end and sales in the home department were impacted by competitor’s promotions.

John Lewis saw strong sales of nursery products meaning that sales in the childrenswear, nursery and haberdashery category rose by 4.8%. Electrical and home technology sales also increased, rising by 1.1%. John Lewis attributed the uplift to customers buying new computers and tablets as a result of thee end of Windows 7.
