“In order to be successful when applying to merchandising positions, I would firstly advise that you thoroughly research what the role entails within a head office capacity and following on from that, why it appeals to you.
“It is very different from a store merchandising role and the first two questions you will be asked in an interview will be ‘what do you know about merchandising’ and ‘why do you want to do it?’ It is extremely beneficial if you do have store retail experience as any duties which involve processing, preparing and replenishing stock are all relative to a head office merchandising role.
“You also need to have a passion for analysis and numbers, which should be demonstrated with a relevant degree and work experience and will certainly assist you in your applications. A head office work placement within merchandising is an added bonus and will be something that sets you apart from other graduates!”
