What is the best way to get into a buyers admin assistant role?
There are so many graduates each year trying to get into BAA roles without placements. To get ahead of the competition you need to make sure you have a buying placement, ideally within a large retailer, this could be for as little as 2 weeks up to a year if you have been on a sandwich course at university.
If you are currently at university ask for information from your course leaders to assist you in finding industrial placements within retail head offices.
Retail head offices also look for shop floor experience along with the placement and degree, this shows that you have a good understanding of the end result of what takes place in a head office; ideally this will be in a high street retailer where you will get exposure to the structure and processes.
The most desirable degrees are usually on the fashion and retail side, but the most important thing is a good head office buying placement as this will show the potential employer you fully understand what the role is about and you are keen to start your buying career.
