What if finding the perfect pair of jeans could be easy? That was the inspiration our founders Doris & Don Fisher had for opening the first Gap store on Ocean Avenue in San Francisco, California in 1969. Led by passion, determination & a desire to do things their own way, their single store stocked with jeans & music went on to change retail forever and has earned a place in pop culture history.

Gap stepped onto the global stage in 1987 with the opening of our first international store in London. Our optimistic attitude & classic American style resonated with customers & helped transform Gap into a global fashion icon.

Today we have 1,700 company-operated and franchise retail locations around the world & we've expanded our online presence to around 70 countries. In the UK, Ireland & Northern Ireland, 5,500 people help bring our particular brand of high street fashion to customers, new & old, through some 150 stores via our Gap, GapKids & babyGap brands. Keeping them coming back time & time again takes a lot of energy, planning & above all, creative thinking.
